NUMERACY TEAM LEAD

My name is Tracy Klein, and I’m excited to be working a second year as the Numeracy Lead for the First Nation School Board.

I moved to the Yukon in 1998 from a small community in the West Kootenays, called Edgewood, British Columbia.

I come from mixed Canadian descent, including the Sinixt First Nation of the Colville Indian Reservation near the Lower Arrow Lakes, B.C. ​ 

My teaching experiences over the past 27 years include being a Teacher on Call, teaching K4 and K5 in Carmacks, and other Primary grades in Whitehorse.

I completed a master’s degree in education at Simon Fraser University in 2024, where I specialized in curriculum and instruction innovations in Mathematics.

I am honoured to share my knowledge and experience with others, and I look forward to fostering positive relationships with the local First Nations. 

Hi! My name is Sander van Dam and I am so excited to join the First Nation School Board as a Numeracy Coach.

I grew up bilingually with a Dutch father and British mother. I was born in and grew up in Gennep in the Netherlands, a small town close to the German border. Later, I spent a lot of time in the nearby city of Nijmegen. I moved to Whitehorse in 2020 to be with my partner whom I met while studying in the Netherlands and I have enjoyed living here ever since.

I have loved math all my life, which led me to study Computer Science at the Radboud University in Nijmegen with a minor in Mathematics. After moving to the Yukon, I worked as a Teacher-On-Call and later as a Math Advocate at the Yukon First Nation Education Directorate. I firmly believe that everyone can learn (and even enjoy!) math and I look forward to be able to support Educators in making that happen.

In my spare time I love to read, cook, watch movies, and spend time outdoors with my partner and our dog Ludo.

I am looking forward to learning with - and from - all the Educators and the local First Nations that the First Nation School Board encompasses.
